The Tax Free Tips act

In January of 2009, former Congressman Ron Paul intoduced the Tax Free Tips Act. In making the case for this bill, Congressman Paul stated, "this legislation makes tips exempt from federal income and payroll taxes. Tips often compose a substantial portion of the earnings of waiters, waitresses, and other service-sector employees. However, unlike regular wages, a service-sector employee usually has no guarantee of, or legal right to, a tip. Instead, the amount of a tip usually depends on how well an employee satisfies a client."

I agree. I want all service sector employees to enjoy 100% of the fruits of their labor. Tips should be recognized as a personal gift from the customer to their service provider. When I'm elected to Congress I will honor Congressman Paul's legacy by reintroducing this legislation.
